Question from a European: How does one actually park one of these behemoths? Are there XXL parking spots, or do you have to park them across 3 regular spaces?

There are no XXL spaces but usually non douchebag drivers of such vehicles will take up two spots longitudinally (front-back) not side by side at open part of the lot near the end. Which makes this so infuriating, because not only does he have to take two spots, he is doing it wrong and occupying a disabled spot.

I won't call it an excuse, but I assume the driver justified this because of the marked off area on the other side of the disabled space. On the off chance someone used the space, dude probably figured they could use part of that area. Still: superdouche.

They're usually accompanied by a couple of Smart cars that have tires on ropes hanging on them...the Smarts are used to dock these giants...

I see what you are saying but if someone now parks in the handicapped space and encroaches on the marked off area my wife has no space to deploy her ramp from the van. That is the main purpose of the marked off area, cars don't belong there.

True, absolutely. No, I mean, that truck is so far into the space that there is no excuse. Shit like this is what makes me biased against large trucks on sight. One place I worked, there was very limited parking space, and during busy times the lot was totally packed. One asshat regularly parked his big pickup truck perpendicularly across three spaces . Outrageous. Unfortunately, that asshat was the owner of the building, so I guess he basically had the privilege of parking however he wanted, but still. Sheesh.
